The AI-Native Airtable Has Arrived: A Letter from our CEO
Airtable is redefining how businesses build and operate with AI, where the magic of vibe coding meets enterprise reliability.
Today, we’re excited to relaunch Airtable as the AI-native app platform, where the magic of vibe coding meets enterprise reliability and the scalability of AI agents, automating thousands of hours of work in seconds.
Instead of just adding more AI capabilities to our existing platform, we treated this as a refounding moment for the company. We launched Airtable in 2015 with the mission of democratizing software creation, and our original product delivered on the promise by leveraging what was newly possible with a rich, realtime collaborative app building experience.
In the AI era, this mission is more timely than ever – as validated by the recent rise of vibe coding (circa Cursor, V0, Replit Agent, Lovable, Bolt.new) as a killer application of AI. To be able to generate a rich, bespoke app by conversationally guiding an app generating agent is a magical experience and opens up the enormous space of possibilities for more people to build useful apps. When the cost of making apps goes to zero, how many more apps will we see made?
Yet vibe coding is unreliable and error-prone for building production business apps. Vibe coding by nature produces apps that look good (because that’s what the builder can iterate on without knowing how to read the underlying generated code), yet underneath could contain bugs, edge cases, and data/security leaks.
Introducing the AI-Native Airtable
That’s why we’re refounding Airtable as the best of both paradigms: an agentic app building assistant called Omni that leverages production-ready app components. Because all of Airtable’s existing pieces are already collaborative, scalable, and provide intuitive visual representations of data, logic, and interface layouts, builders can conversationally vibe generate the app they want, but understand what’s been generated all the way down to the data and logic layer as well, with the security and enterprise-grade reliability of the Airtable platform.
In effect, we turned Airtable into a powerful parts bin, that our new app building agent, Omni, gets full access to.
Omni is more than just an app builder – it's a new way to interact with your apps. It switches seamlessly from building apps to editing data. As an example, a VC can paste in notes from a startup pitch meeting and have Omni create an entry for the company into their investment opportunity tracking app. Omni respects user permissions, giving every user – whether they build apps, edit data, or just view – a conversational agent to handle whatever they need.
Omni can also perform advanced data analysis, including finding interesting patterns and insights across large volumes of data (e.g., customer feedback, call transcripts, reports, contracts), far beyond what fits into a single LLM context window.
But not only are we disrupting the way reliable business apps can be created and used, we also believe that these apps are the ideal container in which an army of agents can be put to useful work.
This is the real unlock. AI chat interactions are good for one-off requests, but you need an AI app to scale AI work. When you want to perform the same AI analysis consistently across thousands of items (e.g. research every company in a 10,000 company list with exactly the same prompt) – and as part of an ongoing workflow (e.g. as new companies are added to the list, automatically trigger another AI run) – you need more than chat. You need apps that can orchestrate, automate, and scale AI work as part of ongoing business operations.
In the AI-native Airtable, you can build apps that chain together multiple AI steps, along with human workflows. The result is a complete, operational AI system rather than a thin wrapper around AI calls. This enables some pretty profound use case unlocks.
Creative production that used to take months now happens in minutes. Teams upload a campaign brief, and agents instantly generate multiple campaign concepts with production-quality visuals for each direction – social ads, banners, email headers, and more. What once required weeks of back-and-forth with creative agencies and months of concepting now lets teams explore dozens of visual directions in real time. Each asset can be customized by language, geography, or channel, giving creative teams a living mood board to guide their final decisions. Six months of traditional creative development compressed into minutes, all within a single Airtable app.
Sales call transcripts sync into Airtable, and field agents immediately extract what matters: feature requests, pain points, competitor mentions, and buying signals. Omni analyzes patterns across thousands of calls and identifies the biggest customer needs. Then additional agents automatically research how competitors are solving these same problems, surfacing feature approaches from across the market. Finally, the system connects all these insights into workflows that enable teams to make informed decisions with comprehensive context. What starts as scattered call data becomes a complete operational system of record and engagement with AI.
This is just the start of a slew of AI-powered capability unlocks we’ll release in the coming months. It’s the most exciting time I’ve ever experienced in building software (and building a platform that itself builds software). New foundation models are released at a breakneck pace, and each enables new capabilities and product experiences to be built around them. What we’re launching today would not have been possible a year ago.
The new AI-native Airtable is the default experience for every new user (try it out in seconds by just going to Airtable.com) and will be rolling out to existing users over the next few weeks (you can also request immediate access here). Every Airtable plan, including our free plan, now comes with all of these AI capabilities and a generous bundling of AI credits. We’re disrupting our own pricing model because we believe this should be the default in our new era of software – one in which the paradigm has shifted from brittle, complex, and unintelligent software to highly fluid, dynamic apps that evolve with your needs and perform countless hours of agentic thinking work on their own, ultimately to complement human app collaborators.
The world is about to build millions of new apps -- and it's happening now. AI has made custom software faster and cheaper than buying off-the-shelf solutions, so companies are ditching their scattered tools for platforms that can generate apps on demand. When the cost of making apps drops to zero, everything changes. Businesses won't settle for rigid, one-size-fits-all software anymore – they'll build exactly what they need, when they need it. This isn't just about easier app building; it's about a complete shift in how software gets made. And with the AI-native Airtable, we're not just participating in this evolution; we're defining it.
AI is making custom apps faster, cheaper, and better than buying rigid, one-size-fits-all solutions. When the cost of app-building drops to zero, everything changes. We’re giving builders in every company superpowers in the form of AI app building and agentic automation. These builders are front row to real-world business needs, and they are the best-positioned to iterate and solve them with AI apps. The transformation of every company is already happening, and it’s builder-led. Since the beginnings of the personal computing revolution, there’s never been a more exciting time to be a builder. Let’s go build!
